Children’s Law Center of Minnesota (CLC) is accepting nominations for its Heroes for Children Award. This award recognizes an individual who has made significant contributions to the well being of Minnesota’s children in either a career or volunteer position.
Joseph Cassioppi, of Fredrikson & Byron is CLC’s February Volunteer of the Month. Joe has gone above and beyond for a client that needed help to avoid outcomes that could have impacted his future for many years. Because he had Joe as his attorney, his client faces a brighter and healthier future.
Nancy Coyle Strahan and Kathleen Berdan attended CLC’s training session in June 2000. As new attorneys they were not familiar with the child protection system and laws and both stated that they were a little intimidated about representing foster care children. Nancy and Kathleen were the first volunteers to co-represent CLC clients and have co-represented several very difficult cases. They have spent an estimated 3,000 hours on their clients since 2000.
This month, CLC would like to honor Michelle Huntley Dill from UnitedHealth Group (UHG) as CLC’s Volunteer of the Month. This winter Michelle was able to work with Staples for a donation of 325 travel bags for CLC’s foster clients.
CLC has benefited over the years from hundreds of volunteers, many of whom have found unique ways to use their talents to help CLC and the children it represents. CLC’s Volunteer of the Month for November has contributed in an extraordinary way that not only is of huge help to CLC, but has the potential to help other children and organizations. We are pleased to recognize attorney Michelle Enright as the CLC Volunteer of the Month.

When considering our Volunteer of the Month selection for September, one name stood out: Pete Hendrixson. Pete’s incredible recent efforts on behalf of one very special client, in addition to his many years of commitment to CLC, made this pick an easy one. Pete Hendrixson has been a volunteer attorney for CLC since 1998. He served on CLC’s Board of Directors from 2003 through 2008, including one term as President.
CLC’s August Volunteer of the Month is Jim Proman. We are honoring Jim both for his outstanding representation of foster children, and for his all-around support of CLC and the work we do.
Jim is always thinking about how he can help CLC. When he comes across an article in the New York Times or other publications, he sends CLC a link to the article, in case it may be helpful. We wholeheartedly appreciate Jim’s enthusiasm for the work CLC does. Jim has also been a faithful financial supporter of CLC for many years, and he is a frequent attendee at CLC events, such as the Wine-Tasting Party held in May. We enjoy seeing Jim at these events and truly appreciate his consistent support over the years.
Congratulations to Larry Espel, CLC’s July 2010 Volunteer of the Month
Larry Espel founded Green Espel in 1993. Larry serves as lead counsel in many high-stakes, complex disputes. His well-reputed practice includes federal and state litigation in Minnesota and throughout the country.
CLC is pleased to name Jody Alholinna as its Volunteer of the Month! Jody has been a friend of CLC since it was founded. She was one of many individuals who helped CLC prepare for its opening in 1995, and she has been a longstanding supporter ever since. She has served on the CLC Board of Directors, has provided considerable behind-the-scenes help to the Board over the years, and has represented eight CLC clients.
