Legal Training

The core work of CLC is to recruit, train, and support volunteer attorneys to provide direct and extended legal representation advocating for youth in foster care. CLC’s volunteer attorneys come from a range of practice areas and receive comprehensive training on the unique needs of foster care youth as well as ongoing consultation and guidance from CLC staff.

Part of our mission at CLC is to engage in professional academic education and interdisciplinary professional clinical training. CLC is fortunate to have staff with decades of combined experience and knowledge in the child protection system.

Our staff consultations are backed up with Practice Points on key topics that we can provide to our volunteer attorneys for in-depth guidance on relevant legal areas.

Training Topics

CLC also designs and presents training sessions for attorneys and a wide range of individuals working with youth on topics including the importance of legal representation for foster care youth, laws regarding children aging out of foster care, active efforts, ICWA, and addressing sibling relationships in child protection.
