What We Do

Children’s Law Center of Minnesota provides free legal representation to children and youth navigating Minnesota’s foster care and child protection systems. Our volunteer and staff attorneys ensure every young person has a voice in court and a trusted advocate by their side.

Beyond legal advocacy, we connect our clients with vital resources and services that support their well-being and long-term success. Our Youth Resource Manager helps youth access education, housing, mental health support, and more.

We recruit, train, and support volunteer attorneys to provide high-quality legal advocacy for youth in foster care. Our comprehensive training empowers legal professionals to effectively champion the rights and needs of their young clients.

CLC also prepares and partners with others to submit amicus curiae briefs to the Minnesota Supreme Court, Minnesota Court of Appeals, the Eighth and other Federal Circuit Courts of Appeals, and the U.S. Supreme Court as they address decisions affecting foster care and other disconnected children.

CLC advances policies that protect and empower youth in foster care and the child protection system. We work to ensure that laws and practices center youth voices, promote stability, and support positive outcomes.
