Ways to Give
Bequests
You may remember Children’s Law Center of Minnesota in your will or trust. Whether you designate a specific amount, a percentage of your estate, or a particular asset, your generosity can provide lasting impact.
You can include a gift in your will by using this suggested language:
“Upon my death, I give the sum of $__________
[or] the following property __________________
[or] _____% of my estate
[or] the residue of my estate
to Children’s Law Center of Minnesota (Tax ID 41-1761589), located at 450 North Syndicate Street, Suite 340, St. Paul, MN 55104, for its general uses and purposes.”
For a trust, consider using:
“Upon the trustor’s (alternatively: settlor’s) death, the trustee shall distribute the sum of $_______ to Children’s Law Center of Minnesota (Tax ID 41-1761589), located at 450 North Syndicate Street, Suite 340, St. Paul, MN 55104, for its general uses and purposes.”
Life Insurance
You may choose to transfer ownership of a life insurance policy to Children’s Law Center of Minnesota or simply name CLC as the policy’s beneficiary. In many cases, this can provide a charitable income tax deduction and allow you to make a significant gift at a relatively modest cost.
Retirement Plans
Naming Children’s Law Center of Minnesota as the beneficiary of your IRA, 401(k), or other retirement account can be a tax-wise way to give. Retirement assets left to individual heirs may be subject to significant income and estate taxes. Donating these funds to a nonprofit like CLC may avoid those taxes entirely, maximizing your impact.
Charitable Remainder Trusts
A charitable remainder trust allows you to contribute assets now, receive an income during your lifetime, and leave the remainder to CLC. This planned giving option offers the potential for current tax deductions and future financial security while leaving a meaningful legacy.
