Standing Up for Foster Youth Voices

Every child deserves to be heard, yet youth in foster care often feel invisible in the system that shapes their lives. Children’s Law Center of Minnesota (CLC) is here to change that. Each year, we provide free legal representation and advocacy for more than 400 children and youth in Minnesota’s foster care system.

With the help of nearly 200 volunteer attorneys, we ensure that young people understand their rights, have a trusted advocate by their side, and are empowered to speak for themselves in court. Beyond the courtroom, our team connects clients with vital resources like housing, education, and mental health support. This holistic approach helps foster youth not only navigate immediate challenges but also build the confidence and stability they need for adulthood.

Every day, hundreds of children in Minnesota’s foster care system face instability, moving from home to home and struggling with trauma and neglect. Without legal advocacy, they risk being left without access to critical services or supportive family connections. With representation, however, children are far more likely to experience stability, well-being, and hope for the future.

Give to the Max Day began in 2009 to launch GiveMN—a collaborative venture led by Minnesota Community Foundation and other partners committed to strengthening our state. That first spark inspired an outpouring of generosity and raised $14 million in just 24 hours. Since then, Give to the Max has become Minnesota’s annual giving holiday, raising more than $250 million in its first 13 years.
