Bryan is an attorney at UnitedHealthcare’s legal department supporting the company’s Legal Risk Management teams. Bryan has been a volunteer with CLC for three years and has represented five clients.
Samantha has been on her own since 9th grade. Trying to remain motivated and focused on school, Samantha turned to the Children’s Law Center when she was 16 for help to gain stability and to help her navigate through the complicated times in her life.

Jessica is a relatively new volunteer attorney with CLC. In 2011, along with several other Medtronic Attorneys, Jessica became involved with CLC. Jessica currently represents an older foster care youth and her representation of this youth has been outstanding.

Josephine, and Valerie were only 9 and 7 years old when they were in a major car accident. Their mother died on the scene and the two girls suffered life-threatening injuries. Despite the doctors’ discouraging predictions, they fought and woke from their comas but both with permanent brain and body damages.
Josephine had major cognitive problems, and Valerie was paralyzed. Their conditions required ongoing medical care. In addition, both girls were traumatized and heart-broken by the loss of their mother.

Joseph Cassioppi, of Fredrikson & Byron is CLC’s February Volunteer of the Month. Joe has gone above and beyond for a client that needed help to avoid outcomes that could have impacted his future for many years. Because he had Joe as his attorney, his client faces a brighter and healthier future.

Nancy Coyle Strahan and Kathleen Berdan attended CLC’s training session in June 2000. As new attorneys they were not familiar with the child protection system and laws and both stated that they were a little intimidated about representing foster care children. Nancy and Kathleen were the first volunteers to co-represent CLC clients and have co-represented several very difficult cases. They have spent an estimated 3,000 hours on their clients since 2000.
